Scottish Mountain Bike Leader's Association.  The award issuing body for mountain bike instructors in Scotland and beyond.
Providers of the best outdoor 1st Aid training there is. With years of experience of providing real cover on the slopes there's nobody in the UK more qualified.  The fact that the majority of mountain rescue teams use them and that courses provided at glenmore Lodge are deliverd by them should say enough.
Glenmore Lodge is Scotland's national outdoor training centre.  Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Northern Corries of the Cairngorms it is a centre of excellence for almost every mountain sport.  Courses there are delivered by top instructors and many of them are at the cutting edge of their fields.  The centre now runs a number of mountain biking courses, some of which utilise its very own skills loop.
Join, your trails need you!

Fabulous magazine that's aimed more at XC enthusiasts than the majority.  It has an equally impressive website that, in the main, caters for riders with a broad range of interests.  It's extremely active and  has a lively forum.
Government working for cyclists!
Direct to their mountain biking pages
An independent website covering all sorts of stuff related to Scottish mountain biking.  We provide some route info and maintenence pages.  Despite the similarities in web addresses this site has entirely independent of Mountainbike Scotland.  However, we do contribute to it in the same way that anyone can.
A government funded organisation working to promote cycling as part of society's fabric.  Among other things it provides training courses that allow cyclists to pass on their skills to others in the community.
The governing body of competitive cycle sport, and so much more, in Scotland.  Cycling insurance included in membership schemes!
Please visit at least some of the links below.  We've put them into loosely related groups and have begun with those we reckon deserve most consideration.  Nobody pays us or gives us free stuff for posting the links.  We've either found the links helpful or have had great service from the people concerned.

The 1st three lead to bodies that are central to the development of cycling in Scotland.  If you ride a bike and are not associated in any way with a body dedicated to improving the sport then shame on you!  You don't need to become a firebrand campaigner to make a difference.  By joining a group that works for cycling you will help better the lot of every rider and the future of the sport.  You can also help cycling by letting people know what you get from it.  The sites shown below will hopefully help increase that enjoyment and be somewhere you can tell folk to head for if they are looking for info.
Give them some money!
Builders of the National Cycle Network and promoters of sustainable transport.  Over 6,500 miles of marked routes on dedicated cycle paths and roads made safe for riders, without government funding, is a pretty impressive heritage.  Many of our routes use sections of trail provided by them.  Please think strongly about supporting this organisation.
Stirling Bike Club is (surprisingly enough) a bike club based in Stirling.  It's one of the few clubs where it's all kinds of cycling that's at the heart of it as opposed to Road, MTB or any other discipline. While there are definite sections for each it's great to see a club that caters for both.  In addtion to having a great site, organised runsand social activities, they play bicycle polo!
A well established and strongly active club that serves riders in the Glasgow area.  It has a good programme of organised rides comprising of awaydays at the weekends and local runs midweek.
Based in and around Lochgilphead this small group displays an tremendous profile with regular racing etc.with stron multi-sp[ort connections.  They have also set a big example through their involvement in building and maintaining of the Fire tower mountain bike trails above the town.
Situated in the Northeast this club is another that embodies all that's great about mountain biking.  The extensive site lets you see what they get up to and details their input in the construction of the superb Moray Monster MTB trails.
Light, bright and British.  Adaptable and roubust light systems from the UK's own night banishers.  Yes there are more hi-tec systems out there.  Yes there are prettier  And, yes, even longer lasting!

Cheap, cheeful and full of friendly folk.
For the more budget minded, the alternative of an independent hostel is worth considering.  Many are superb and are often in unique locations.  See what they have to offer by visiting their site.
Similar in name to the site above, it's the cycling specific part of Visit Scotland.  Loads of info as well as some route information.
The Cyclists Welcome scheme endeavours to just what it says in the name.  It's a list of accommodation providers who will have a hot drink ready for you when you arrive, somewhere to store your bike, dry your kit and much more.  Brilliant idea that might make all the difference at the end of a hard day!
As well as being very active riders, Cairngorm Mountain Bikers build and maintain the trails around the Aviemore area.  They have close links with the shop below which is a must visit if you're in the area.
Fantastic shop, typical of the type you'll find in the Highlands.  Great range of gear plus knowledgeable and genuinely helpful staff.
